Hair plays a huge role in our overall appearance and confidence. We're constantly bombarded with new hair products promising to make our locks look and feel their best.
But with so many options available, it can be overwhelming to figure out which products are right for us.
I have ultra-long hair almost to my waist. Now that I'm in my 40s, keeping my hair healthy is even more important to me.
Keep reading to see the best hair products that made the list below.

1. Essential Hair Products
Every good hair care routine starts with a few essential products. These include:
Shampoo: Your shampoo should cleanse your scalp and hair without stripping away natural oils. Choose a shampoo that is formulated for your hair type (oily, dry, normal, etc.). I have had great experience using Biolage Color Last Shampoo and I've used this shampoo for a couple years now.
Conditioner: Conditioner helps to hydrate and detangle your hair. I recommend applying Biolage Color Last Conditioner to the mid-lengths and ends of your hair after shampooing.
Leave-in conditioner: A leave-in conditioner such as It's a 10 Haircare Miracle Leave-In product can help to protect your hair from heat damage and keep it hydrated throughout the day.
2. Hair Treatments
If your hair is damaged or dry, especially during the winter months, you may want to consider using a hair treatment to give it some love. Hair treatments can help to repair damage, restore moisture, and improve the overall condition of your hair.
Some popular hair treatments include:
Hair masks: Hair masks are deep-conditioning treatments that you apply to your hair once or twice a week. My suggestion is Biolage Hydra Source Mask. Leave it on for 20-30 minutes, then rinse it out.
Hair oils: Hair oils, like Moroccanoil Treatment, can help to hydrate and nourish your hair. Apply a few drops to your hair ends after shampooing and conditioning.
Heat protectant: Heat protectant is a must-have if you use heat styling tools. I recommend Redken Frizz Dismiss Rebel Tame Heat Protective Leave-In Cream and apply it to your hair before blow-drying, straightening, or curling.
3. Hair Stylers
Because my hair is so long and thick, I have to constantly brush it and believe me, it gets so tiring! Just ask my stylist. :)
I recommend the T3 Smooth Paddle Brush or the Tangle Teezer The Ultimate Detangling Brush.
I admit, I am not a big blow-dryer type of gal, but I've used this product a few times, and it does the job right: REVLON One-Step Volumizer Enhanced 1.0 Hair Dryer and Hot Air Brush.
To curl my hair, this Paul Mitchell Pro Tools Express Gold Curl Titanium Curling Iron is fire.
To finish off the look, I spray a little Paul Mitchell Stay Strong Finishing Hairspray, Long-Lasting Hold on the ends. And, to hold off on washing my hair for a couple days, I spritz Batiste Dry Shampoo on the scalp to help control the oils.
And there you have it! Once you've chosen the right hair products, it's important to use them correctly. Here are a few tips:
Don't overdo it. Too much product can weigh down your hair and make it look greasy.
Start with a small amount. You can always add more product if needed.
Apply products to the ends of your hair first. The ends of your hair are the oldest and driest, so they need the most attention.
Be gentle with your hair. Don't rub or scrub your hair when you're shampooing or conditioning it.
I hope this post has helped you to learn more about hair products. With the right products and routine, you can achieve healthy, beautiful hair that you love. Let me know what you think!
